Description
Salto El Limón is the waterfall people come to Samaná for. Most tours take you to it and back in a morning. This one takes you to three of them and gives you the whole day. The trail is a little over two kilometres, about thirty minutes on foot, through coconut and cacao plantations and fruit trees, in wet tropical forest thick enough that the walk earns its place alongside the destination. If you would rather not walk it, there are horses. The route takes in two smaller falls before the main one, and you can swim at the bottom. Lunch is a buffet of typical Dominican food with water and a soft drink. The day runs 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, meeting at the entrance to Samaná. One practical note: if the trail is muddy that day, boots can be rented on site for RD$150. That is paid there and is not part of the price. Andrés Pérez has guided this coast for fifteen years, is certified by the Ministry of Tourism and belongs to AGTUGE, the local guides' association. The price above is for the walking version. On horseback it is $65 per person — tell Andrés on WhatsApp which one you want.

At the entrance to Samaná town. The day starts at 9:00 am and finishes at 4:00 pm. Confirm the exact spot with Andrés on WhatsApp the day before, and tell him whether you want the walking or the horseback version.
Accessibility & Requirements
A little over two kilometres each way, about thirty minutes on foot, on a forest trail that turns muddy and slippery after rain. Closed shoes are needed, and boots can be rented on site on bad days for RD$150. Most fitness levels manage the walk, and the horseback option covers anyone who would rather not do it on foot. The pools under the falls are deep in the middle, so swimming ability is recommended. There are toilets and a restaurant at the site.

Isabel D'Ma year agoMy friend and I booked the 7 beaches walking tour ans had a great day with Andrés - he is from the area and knows everyone! He even helped us to arrange transport to and from Samana at a good price after we realised going by bus would not work. Andrés knows all about the beaches, advised us on where was best to swim and where was not safe, told us a lot about the plants and trees. He even cracked open an almond to show us - it was tasty! The lunch was good and we had time to go to where the river meets the sea which was beautiful and refreshing to cool off before heading back. Highly recommend!
