Description
The three beaches east of Las Galeras have no road. Frontón, Madama and the far end of Rincón are reached either on foot, over an hour and a half of coastal trail, or the way Andrés does it — a twenty-minute boat ride out of the little harbour at Las Galeras. The day starts at 9:30 am at Playita Las Galeras. Twenty minutes later the boat rounds the headland into Playa Frontón, where the limestone wall drops straight into the water and climbers come for the only via ferrata route in the Dominican Republic. You get three hours here: swimming, snorkelling, and shade at the back of the beach. Next is Playa Madama, a narrow cove closed in by jungle, with a Taíno cave at one end and water the colour of green glass. Then the boat carries on to Playa Rincón — four kilometres of white sand regularly ranked among the best in the Caribbean — where lunch is served at a beachfront restaurant looking out over the bay. Back at Las Galeras by 4:00 pm. Andrés Pérez has guided this coast for fifteen years. He is certified by the Ministry of Tourism and a member of AGTUGE, the local guides' association. A shorter two-beach version of the same trip runs 9:30 am to 3:30 pm and covers Frontón (three hours) and Madama (one hour, including the Taíno cave), with a typical lunch served on the beach instead of at the restaurant. The crossing to Playa Frontón takes about 20 minutes in a small open boat, so the trip is not suitable for anyone who cannot climb aboard from the beach or who is uneasy on the sea. Swimming ability is recommended. None of the three beaches has toilets, shade structures or shops. Departures depend on sea conditions and may be moved or cancelled on rough days.

Isabel D'Ma year agoMy friend and I booked the 7 beaches walking tour ans had a great day with Andrés - he is from the area and knows everyone! He even helped us to arrange transport to and from Samana at a good price after we realised going by bus would not work. Andrés knows all about the beaches, advised us on where was best to swim and where was not safe, told us a lot about the plants and trees. He even cracked open an almond to show us - it was tasty! The lunch was good and we had time to go to where the river meets the sea which was beautiful and refreshing to cool off before heading back. Highly recommend! The beach itself is stunning—secluded, pristine, and surrounded by lush nature that makes you feel like you’ve discovered a hidden paradise. Andre is an excellent guide. He is knowledgeable, friendly, and very attentive to every detail. Throughout the trip, he shared interesting stories about the area and made sure everyone felt comfortable and safe. The organization was top-notch, from transportation to the boat ride and the time we spent relaxing on the beach. He is knowledgeable, respectful and incredibly friendly and knows Las Galeras inside out. We felt safe as learned so much about the natural wonders of the area.
