Description
You leave town mid-morning on your own machine — a quad for one or two, or a buggy for two or four — and climb straight out of Las Terrenas into the hills behind it. The coffee route runs through farmland most visitors never see: dirt track, shade, the odd river crossing, and views back down over the coast. Nobody is riding pillion on a tour bus here. You are driving, with a local guide ahead of you setting the pace. Halfway up there is a working stop where coffee, rubber and tobacco are still processed by hand. You watch the beans roasted and ground, see how the latex is drawn and worked, and watch a cigar rolled from leaf to finished stick. It is a short stop, not a performance, and you get to taste and smell your way through it before the engines start again. Then comes lunch: a full Dominican buffet, sat down, with enough time to eat properly. The afternoon is yours to choose, and this is where the day splits. One option is the El Limon waterfall, the big one in the interior. The other is a run of the north-coast beaches — Playa Moron, Playa Limon, Playa Las Canas, Playa Carolina — strung out along the wilder side of the peninsula, with stops to swim. Say which you prefer when you book, or decide with your guide on the day. Either way you are back in Las Terrenas by late afternoon, dusty and salty, with the machine handed back at the shop. Nano and Vega run this out of Las Terrenas and have 4.8 stars from 75 Google reviews. The tour goes out every day.
