Description
Cabo Cabrón is a national park you cannot drive to. The cliffs on this side of the peninsula rise straight out of the water, and the interior has stayed largely untouched for the simple reason that reaching it is hard. That is what the boat is for. The day starts at 9:00 am at Playita Las Galeras. Twenty minutes along the coast, the boat puts in at a landing point inside the park, and from there it is 45 minutes to an hour on foot — forest trail, some rock, a steady climb — to Las Pozas: a set of turquoise pools held in the stone, deep enough to swim in and cold enough to be worth the walk. Andrés cooks a traditional Dominican meal on the spot. You are back at Las Galeras by 3:00 pm. He has guided this coast for fifteen years, is certified by the Ministry of Tourism and belongs to AGTUGE, the local guides' association. Cabo Cabrón is the least requested trip in his catalogue and the one he rates highest — it is the one place on the peninsula where you are unlikely to see another group all day.

Accessibility & Requirements
A 20-minute crossing in a small open boat, then 45 to 60 minutes of walking on uneven forest and rock trail, with some scrambling between the pools. A moderate level of fitness is needed. Not suitable for limited mobility, or for anyone uneasy on the sea. There are no toilets, shade structures or shops inside the park. Departures depend on sea conditions and may be moved or cancelled on rough days.

Isabel D'Ma year agoMy friend and I booked the 7 beaches walking tour ans had a great day with Andrés - he is from the area and knows everyone! He even helped us to arrange transport to and from Samana at a good price after we realised going by bus would not work. Andrés knows all about the beaches, advised us on where was best to swim and where was not safe, told us a lot about the plants and trees. He even cracked open an almond to show us - it was tasty! The lunch was good and we had time to go to where the river meets the sea which was beautiful and refreshing to cool off before heading back. Highly recommend! The beach itself is stunning—secluded, pristine, and surrounded by lush nature that makes you feel like you’ve discovered a hidden paradise. Andre is an excellent guide. He is knowledgeable, friendly, and very attentive to every detail. Throughout the trip, he shared interesting stories about the area and made sure everyone felt comfortable and safe. He is knowledgeable, respectful and incredibly friendly and knows Las Galeras inside out. We felt safe as learned so much about the natural wonders of the area.
