What stands out to me, is also that the RushMore school ensures you know your basics including how to set up your kite, launch and more. Many schools will skip this critical step. Rich Eden5 years agoI had a fantastic three days kiting in Las Terrenas with Stacie and Rushmore Kites. The range of kites and boards was great and all of the gear was in great condition. Stacie's local knowledge was excellent and we had Portillo all to our selves for an hour each day before more kiters turned up. Learn kitesurfing at RushMore, a specialist school on the pristine Playa El Portillo beach in Las Terrenas. Founded by aviation professional Anastasia, the school emphasizes safety and proper technique from day one. Beginners start with ground-based kite handling, safety systems, and wind-window theory before progressing to water work. The 4-day introductory course spans 10 hours (2.5 hours daily) with a personal instructor guiding you through each stage of the sport. All professional-grade equipment—kites from Ozone and F-One, boards, harnesses, helmets, and impact vests—is provided. The school is located on-site at Hotel Alisei, offering easy access to the golden-sand beaches and crystal-clear waters of the Samaná Peninsula, with nearby ecotourism attractions like Los Haítises National Park.
