Description
Los Haitises National Park sits across Samana Bay, and DDD makes the crossing from the main dock in Samana town on its own boat. The park is a maze of hundreds of small limestone islets rising straight out of shallow water, and the route threads through wild mangrove channels where dozens of bird species nest on the rock faces.
The tour stops at the caves, where the Taino people lived many centuries ago, and you go in on foot to see the chambers from the inside.
On the way back the boat calls at Cayo Levantado, the small island in the bay that everyone calls Bacardi. There you have lunch, swim, snorkel and sit on the sand before heading back to Samana. The boat leaves the dock at 9:30 in the morning and is back between 3:45 and 4:00 in the afternoon, so it is a full day out.

Avenida La Marina #9, main dock of Samana, Samana 32000, Dominican Republic
DDD Samana Boat Tours works out of the main dock in the town of Samana, on Avenida La Marina, and covers the whole bay from there. Between 15 January and 31 March they run whale watching on a 40-foot motor catamaran, going out to the humpback whales that come into Samana Bay every year to mate and raise their calves. The rest of the year the same boats head for Los Haitises National Park, with its limestone islets, mangrove channels and Taino caves, and for Cayo Levantado, the small island in the bay that everyone calls Bacardi, where the day is built around lunch, swimming and the beach. They also charter for sport fishing with Captain Jonathan, after dorado, barracuda and wahoo inside the bay and tuna and marlin further out. The fleet runs from a small open boat for four people up to a 40-foot catamaran for twelve, by the half day or the full day. Lisette Jimenez handles the bookings.
