A humpback whale watching day out of Las Galeras with a maximum of ten people aboard. THE BOAT Isabella is a twin-engine boat with a sun canopy, comfortable seats and music. Two engines mean less slamming through the swell on the way out. THE DAY 9:00 - meet on the beach at Hotel Altra, Las Galeras 9:30 - head out to watch the whales 11:00 - arrive at Playa Fronton: aperitif on the sand, snorkelling, and time in the sun 13:00 - aperitif and lunch at the restaurant on Playa Fronton 15:00 - leave Playa Fronton 15:30 - end of the excursion, back to the pick-up point by taxi You see the whales twice over: from the water on the way out, and again from the beach at Fronton. LUNCH AND DRINKS Lunch is your choice of fish or chicken, with mixed salad, chips, rice and plantain. Drinks are self-service for the whole excursion: rum, water, soft drinks and beer. Grilled lobster can be added for US$30, and fruit on request. Snorkelling gear - mask, snorkel and fins - is provided. SEASON The whale trip runs from January to the end of March. WHAT IT COSTS US$100 per person. Transport from hotels in Las Terrenas and Samana is not included.

The beach at Hotel Altra, Las Galeras
Boat excursion operator in Las Galeras, running from Los Aserraderos beach and the Hotel Altra. Its main trip is a day out to Playa Frontón, Playa Madama and Playa Rincón with snorkelling gear and lunch on the sand, capped at ten people per boat. It also runs a Polaris buggy route through the countryside behind Las Galeras, with a stop at Playa Rincón and Caño Frío. Departures are at 9:30 am and both trips are back by about 3:30 pm.
