El Limón is the highest waterfall in the Samaná Peninsula — 40 metres, about 120 feet — and it is 20 kilometres and roughly 25 minutes from the town and port of Samaná, only 15 minutes from Las Terrenas. Emilio drives you up through the lush mountains of the peninsula in an air-conditioned minivan, past small villages and countryside scenery. At the ranch you rest first with a Dominican coffee. From there you can hike the trail on foot, about 50 minutes through hills planted with coconut, coffee, cacao, avocado, mango and banana, or take the easier route and ride a horse, about 25 minutes. The first sight of the fall is the reason people come. You spend around an hour there, swimming in the cool natural pool at the bottom. Bring a bathing suit and a camera. Price is per adult and depends on where you are picked up: $58 from Las Terrenas hotels, $63 from Samaná hotels, $73 from Las Galeras hotels, and $63 from the Samaná cruise port. Children up to 12 years old pay $30. Minimum 2 adults. From hotels the tour lasts 6 to 7 hours; from cruise ships, 3 to 4 hours. For groups of 3 to 6 people the price includes the horse rental, lunch, Cuba Libre, soft drinks, natural water and the national park fees. For 2 people, soft drinks and natural water are included.

We were a group of 7, 4 adults and 3 kids, and had a wonderful day with prompt service and were able to make it back to the ship with time to spare (and have a gorgeous day that gave us the opportunity to avoid the mass of idiots on our cruise ship)See this review on Google

Patrick Mitchell8 years agoOPTIMA provided us with excellent transportation when needed and also guides great excursion tours. We had a driver waiting for us at the Ferry in Samana where the driver then brought us to our apartment to drop off our luggage and change before heading out to a horseback riding excursion at the Limon Waterfall. I was fearful that this would be too much but they handled all those moving pieces effortlessly. Emilio showed great customer service.See this review on Google
